        BELIEFS

The Bible:  We believe the Bible was written by divinely inspired men and is God’s revelation of Himself to mankind.  It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction.  It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter as originally given by God.  Therefore, all Scripture is true and trustworthy.  It reveals the principles by which God judges us; and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world.  It is the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried.  All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

God:  We believe there is only one living and true God.  He is an intelligent, spiritual, an personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and the Ruler of the Universe.  He is infinite in holiness and all other perfections.  To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience. God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinctions in personal attributes but without division of nature, essence, or being.

The Father:  We believe God the Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creation, and the unfolding of history according to the purposes of His grace.  He is all powerful, all loving, and all knowing in all things past, present, and future.  God is the Father in truth to those who become His children through faith in Jesus Christ.  He is fatherly in His attitude toward all men.

Jesus Christ:  We believe Jesus is the eternal Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.  Jesus perfectly revealed and did God’s will, taking on Himself human nature and identifying completely with mankind yet is without sin.  Through His death on the cross He made provision for the redemption of mankind from sin.  He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples as the same person prior to the crucifixion.  He ascended into heaven and is exalted at the right hand of the God where He is the One Mediator, fully God and fully man, in whose Person is effected the reconciliation between God and man.  He will return in power and glory to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission. He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever-present Lord.

The Holy Spirit:  We believe the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God.  He inspired men to write the Scriptures.  Through illumination He enables men to comprehend truth.  He exalts Jesus Christ, convicts humankind of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.  He calls people to Jesus Christ, and effects regeneration.  At the moment of regeneration He baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ.  He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and gives spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His Church.  He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption.  His presence in the Christian is the assurance of God to bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Jesus.  He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service.

Humankind:  We believe humankind was created in the image of God, and is the crowning work of His creation.  Humankind was created free of sin and was endowed by God with the freedom of choice.  By his free will, man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race.  Through the temptation of Satan, Adam and Eve sinned against God and fell from original innocence, whereby all humankind thereafter inherit a nature and an environment inclined toward sin.  Therefore, as soon as they are capable of moral action, they  become sinners and are under condemnation.  Only God’s grace can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purposes of God.  All humankind is created in the image of God and because Christ died for humankind, every person possesses dignity and is worthy of respect and love.

Salvation:  We believe that salvation involves the redemption of the whole person and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, who by His own blood secured the eternal redemption of the believer.  In its broadest sense, salvation includes regeneration, sanctification, and glorification.  Salvation is a gift of God’s grace through faith in Christ alone. Apart from personal faith in Jesus, there is no salvation.

The Church:  We believe in the church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a local body of baptized believers who are associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing two ordinances of Christ, committed to His teachings, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth.  The New Testament speaks also of the church as the body of Christ which includes all of the redeemed of all the ages.

This statement of faith is not exhaustive of all that we believe.  Furthermore, we subscribe to the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message.
